About fire-warp

We believe every young person deserves to understand money before life forces them to learn through mistakes.

Educational workshop setting

Our Story

fire-warp began in 2019 when a group of financial educators in Belfast noticed a troubling pattern. Bright, capable young people were entering adulthood completely unprepared for financial decisions. They understood complex academic concepts but were baffled by tax codes, intimidated by budgets, and vulnerable to debt.

The problem wasn't intelligence. It was simply that nobody had taught them. We set out to change that, creating age-appropriate financial education programs that make money management accessible, engaging, and practical.

What We Believe

Financial literacy is a fundamental life skill, as essential as reading or mathematics. Yet it's often overlooked until crisis hits. We believe children and teenagers should learn about money in a supportive environment where questions are welcomed and mistakes become lessons.

Our programs don't lecture or overwhelm. They meet young people where they are, using language they understand and scenarios they'll actually encounter. We strip away the jargon and focus on what matters: making informed choices, understanding value, and building confidence.

"Before fire-warp, I avoided talking about money with my kids because I wasn't confident myself. Now we discuss it openly. It's transformed our family conversations."

Our Approach

We combine educational theory with practical application. Sessions are interactive, not passive. Young people work through real scenarios, make decisions, and see consequences in safe, controlled environments. They learn by doing, not just listening.

Every program is structured around developmental stages. What works for a seven-year-old learning about coins differs dramatically from what a sixteen-year-old needs to understand credit. We tailor content to cognitive development and life stage.

The Team

Our educators bring backgrounds in finance, teaching, child development, and youth work. They understand both the technical aspects of money management and how to communicate complex ideas to young minds. Every instructor is DBS checked and trained in age-appropriate teaching methods.

We regularly update our curriculum based on feedback from families, changes in financial regulation, and emerging challenges young people face. Digital banking, cryptocurrency, online scams – we stay current so our education remains relevant.

Why Belfast

Belfast is home, and we're committed to this community. We understand the local economic landscape, opportunities available to young people here, and challenges Belfast families navigate. Our examples and scenarios reflect this reality.

From understanding university costs in the UK and Ireland to planning for local career paths, we ground our teaching in the world our students actually inhabit. Financial education shouldn't be generic – it should be grounded in the place where young people live.

Our Impact

Since 2019, we've worked with over 800 young people across Belfast. We measure success not in test scores but in real outcomes: teenagers opening their first bank accounts with confidence, children making thoughtful spending choices, families having productive conversations about money.

Parents report reduced financial stress when their children understand why certain purchases can't happen right now. Teachers tell us students show improved decision-making skills across subjects. The benefits extend far beyond simply knowing how to balance a checkbook.

Looking Forward

Financial challenges evolve. The money landscape young people face today differs from what their parents encountered. Digital currencies, gig economy work, subscription services, online fraud – these are new territories requiring new knowledge.

We're committed to evolving with these changes, ensuring our programs address emerging financial realities while maintaining focus on timeless fundamentals: understanding value, making informed choices, planning ahead, and building confidence.

Every young person who completes one of our programs enters adulthood better prepared. That's our mission, and we're just getting started.
